Interested in becoming an agent?

The first step in the process is passing your state health insurance exam. If your state offers a life and health combo, we recommend you pursue that license. You can find your state testing locations and details by visiting your state Department of Insurance website.

Once you pass your state exam, you will be required to go through fingerprinting and a background check. You'll then be issued a state insurance license number and a national producer number (NPN) a few days later. Once you have these numbers (aka your "writing numbers"), you're ready for the next step!

The AHIP Certification

Once you have a state insurance license, you'll need to obtain the AHIP: Medicare, Fraud, Waste, and Abuse certification. This is a $175 annual certification that can be obtained by completing an online exam. The study materials are included with the exam. First time WAG agents will receive a $50 discount on the AHIP. Veteran agents are encouraged to learn about how they can have their entire cost reimbursed each year. Ask your WAG mentor about this today!

Error and Omission Insurance

Once you're licensed and certified, it's time to begin the contracting process. WAG agents are independent professionals with access to dozens of major insurance companies for their clients.
